Awards and Recognition
The PSA recognises members and aspiring speakers through a number of different awards which are given at our Annual Convention.
This is our highest award – the Professional Speaking Award of Excellence – and is given to Members or Fellows of the PSA who have consistently demonstrated platform excellence and professionalism in addition to making a contribution to the PSA. The PSAE is awarded at our Annual Convention. A full list of PSAE recipients can be found at this page.
The Founders Award is an occasional award given to exceptional individuals for accomplishments reflecting outstanding credit, respect, honour and admiration in the PSA and the speaking profession. The award is given at our Annual Convention. A full list of Founders Award recipients can be found at this page.
Honorary Fellowship is awarded each year at our Annual Convention to speakers who demonstrated service to the profession of speaking or to the PSA. Honorary Fellows do not have to be members of the PSA and there is no charge for their membership fees. The award is given at our Annual Convention. A full list of Honorary Fellows can be found at this page.
The Speaker Factor award is given each year to the individual who is judged to be the best new speaker of the year based on their delivery, script and stage craft shown in a five-minute speech. Regional heats are held from April each year with the winner of each Region going to a national final held at the Annual Convention. Click here for more details.
The Individual Regions Speaker of the Year
The Individual Regions Speaker of the Year award is presented to a speaker for each region who was judged to present the best talk at the individual regional event. These are judged by the regions independently.
The Regional Speaker of the Year
The Regional Speaker of the Year award is given each year to the speaker who received the highest number of votes for the Individual Regions Speaker of the Year award. In the event that this is a tie or there is no clear winner, the board will have the deciding vote.
The Regional Member of the Year
The Regional Member of the Year award is presented to individuals for each region who have demonstrated service and contribution to the region. These are judged by the regions independently.
The Regional President of the Year
The Regional President of the Year award is presented to the Regional President who has demonstrated exceptional service, contribution and collaborative work with PSA members and support staff. Names for this award are nominated by HQ and approved by the board.
The President’s Award
The President’s Award is given each year at our Annual Convention by the President of the PSA to an individual of their choice for any reason the President considers makes them worthy.
The Spirit Of Joy Award
The Spirit Of Joy Award is a new award for 2019 to honour the memory and impact of our 2018/19 President, Joy Marsden, who sadly died in April this year.
The Spirit of Joy award will be presented annually at the PSA Convention and will be awarded to an individual who it is felt has best embodied the spirit that Joy brought to everything she did, namely joy, energy, resilience, selflessness, a desire to serve others and a willingness to support her fellow speakers, with tough love when needed. These are the attributes we will all remember and celebrate Joy for.
The recipient will be decided by the Board of Directors with input from the operational team, as they often saw the impact Joy had that was not necessarily seen in public, and Regional Presidents will also be invited to nominate individuals. An award trophy will be commissioned that the recipient will keep for a year before returning to be presented to the next winner. A recipient can only win the Spirit of Joy award once.
We hope you agree this is a fitting tribute to our colleague and friend.
